Acne vulgaris, commonly referred to as acne, is a prevalent skin condition that affects individuals of various ages, especially during adolescence and early adulthood. It is characterized by the formation of comedones, papules, pustules, nodules, and, in more severe cases, cysts on the skin. Acne typically occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, leading to the growth of bacteria, primarily Propionibacterium acnes, within these follicles. Factors such as hormonal changes, genetics, and certain medications can contribute to the development of acne.
